Axela Launches panelPlus™ Sensors for Real-Time Multiplex Protein Biomarker Detection

Toronto, Canada, July 21, 2009 - Axela Inc. is pleased to introduce panelPlus Multiplex Sensors and an introductory assay menu for oncology, cardiology and infectious disease research. This innovative assay format provides the industry’s first real-time, user configurable multiplex assays.  These new kits provide the freedom to combine ready-to-use panelPlus Analytes with the researchers own targets without increasing sample consumption. Biomarker discoveries can now be analyzed with existing markers to facilitate both validation and routine analysis of new panels.

“These products represent a significant improvement in the tools available to the clinical researcher” said Rocky Ganske, President and CEO of Axela.  “Simplifying multiplex assay development removes a major bottleneck in biomarker research. The approach has already led to novel clinical applications that will be commercialized with partners or directly in Axela’s future diagnostic offerings”

Based on unique optics technology, the dotLab® System uses flow-based real-time detection to deliver significantly more information from every analysis. Beyond quantitation of biomarker panels, additional parameters such as avidity, isotype or isoform distribution can be determined for each analyte. Removal of endpoint assay limitations extends the measureable dynamic range and allows marker combinations not possible with existing technologies. The integration of multiplex capability with dot® Technology reduces sample consumption, handling, time to result, and costs while generating superior data quality. The panelPlus Multiplex Sensors will initially be offered for research use only (RUO) on the dotLab biomarker analysis platform.

The new products will be introduced at the AACC/ASCLS Annual meeting in Chicago, July 21-23 (Axela Inc booth #3767). In addition to an OEM lecture on July 21st, Axela's technology will be featured in two presentations entitled "Multiplexed Protein Measurement Using Diffractive Optics Technology" and "Development of a Novel Immunoassay for Characterizing the Circulating Form of Cardiac Troponin".
